- The agreement also expands MycoTechnology’s presence in China through the exclusive distribution of ClearIQ Natural Flavor.
Reducing sugar without compromising taste remains one of the biggest challenges for food and beverage manufacturers.
As consumers increasingly seek healthier products with clean-label ingredients, companies are investing in technologies that can deliver sweetness without the drawbacks often associated with traditional sugar alternatives.
Against this backdrop, MycoTechnology and Adorvia Biotechnology have announced a global partnership aimed at helping brands develop better-tasting, reduced-sugar products.
Combining Two Complementary Technologies
The collaboration brings together MycoTechnology’s Zukora Honey Truffle Sweet Protein and Adorvia Biotechnology’s Reb M stevia ingredient. By combining the strengths of both technologies, the companies aim to create natural sweetening systems that more closely replicate the taste profile of sugar while minimizing bitterness, metallic notes, and lingering aftertaste.
The partnership is expected to support manufacturers developing low-calorie and no-calorie products across a variety of food and beverage categories. It will also include joint formulation work and commercial activities across North America to help customers optimize sugar reduction strategies.
“With the launch of Zukora Honey Truffle Sweet Protein, MycoTechnology is expanding the toolkit for natural, non-artificial sugar reduction,” said Jordi Ferre, CEO of MycoTechnology.
“Adorvia is an ideal partner to help accelerate this vision. By combining Zukora’s clean sweetness profile with Adorvia’s high-quality Reb M, we can deliver more sugar-like solutions to customers while expanding our reach from the United States to China and other global markets.”
Expanding Beyond Sugar Reduction
The agreement also strengthens MycoTechnology’s international presence. Under the partnership, Adorvia Biotechnology will become the exclusive distributor of ClearIQ Natural Flavor in China.
Developed through mycelial fermentation, ClearIQ is designed to improve flavour by reducing bitterness, minimizing protein off-notes, and enhancing mouthfeel. These capabilities make it particularly valuable for manufacturers producing protein-rich and better-for-you foods and beverages.
“With ClearIQ, we can help food and beverage companies in China enhance desirable flavours, mitigate negative flavours such as bitterness and protein off-notes, and improve mouthfeel by reducing astringency,” said Jeff Pei, General Manager of Adorvia Biotechnology.
Supporting the Next Generation of Food Innovation
The partnership reflects the industry’s continued focus on balancing nutrition with consumer expectations for taste. Rather than relying on a single ingredient, manufacturers are increasingly exploring complementary technologies that work together to improve both functionality and flavour.
To demonstrate the combined performance of their ingredients, the companies will showcase prototype products at IFT FIRST in Chicago, including a 50% reduced-sugar lemon and lime slushie and a low-sugar chocolate cookie dough protein bar.
As demand for healthier and clean-label products continues to rise worldwide, collaborations such as this are expected to provide food and beverage manufacturers with more effective tools to develop products that meet evolving consumer preferences without sacrificing taste.
